California Check Cashing StoresCalifornia Check Cashing Stores (CCCS) is launching a Financial Literacy Program for local area high schools in an effort to bring practical, real-world financial skills to high school students. The program, set to begin this summer, is meant to provide students with a foundation in financial concepts and to teach students easy but powerful tips for managing their own finances as they begin their working lives.

“We feel that there is a great need for financial education among today’s students that is not being addressed by the core curriculum in our high schools. As an active provider of financial services in our community, we believe there is an opportunity for us to reach out to our community and address this need in a meaningful and helpful way,” stated Rick Lake, President and CEO of CCCS.

To maximize the impact of the program, CCCS has compiled a list of target high schools in the Northern California area which could most benefit from such a program. Target high schools for the program are typically public or charter schools with lower scores on the Academic Performance Index, which is a measure of a school’s overall standardized test scores. In order to expand the reach of the program, CCCS will also hire local university students majoring in Finance or Teaching to lead many of the sessions at the high schools.

The program will kick-off on Tuesday, July 24th at Hiram W. Johnson High School in Sacramento and continue at many other high schools in the area. “We hope to reach as many students as we can and provide them with the tools and skills they need to actively reach their financial goals,” says Mr. Lake.
